Engine Oil Changes

This can always be a controversial subject with many people, as there are so many opinions as to what are the best products for oil changes on the 2JZGTE (GE) Supra's.

1.0 Engine Oil

The factory Toyota oil is a non-synthetic recommended 10w-30 multi-viscosity oil. We recommend along with most every major Toyota tuner that you switch to a 10w-30 100% synthetic oil. Turbocharged cars are quite hard on oil products with all the heat being produced, which can cause a non-synthetic oil to break-down quickly and leave "coking deposits" on your turbo bearings, and also in severe cases can provide inadequate upper cylinder oiling.

You can switch directly from a non-synthetic oil to a fully synthetic oil without any issue.

We recommend the following oils: Mobil 1, Redline, Amsoil, Royal Purple, Pennzoil Platinum, Rotella T6.

Oil Change Intervals: 3,000 - 5,000 miles on synthetics

2.0 How to Remove the Oil Filter

On the 1993-1996 Supra's the easiest way to remove the oil filter is to take out the battery (4 minutes), and get the filter out through the top. On the 1997-1998 Supra's you have a bit more room because the of the ABS being relocated to the opposite side of the engine bay and therefore do NOT need to remove the battery for your own oil changes.

We recommend the following oil filters: Mobil 1, Amsoil, K&N, Wix, Purolator
